MBBS Curriculum

The college offers five years MBBS course and one year internship training in President Abdul Hamid Medical College as required by Bangladesh Medical & Dental Council leading to MBBS degree of the University of Dhaka. The academic session shall be from January each year or as suggested by Government. MBBS course comprises of 5 Years, foil owed by logbook based rotatory internship for one year.

NB: All academic activities including professional examination of each phase must be completed within the specific time of the phase.

The examination will be held in the first week of January and July each year. Subjects with distribution of marks for different professional examinations are as follows:

Pass Marks: Pass mark is 60%. Student shall have to pass written (MCQ+SAQ+formative), oral, practical and clinical examination separately & 85% of the total marks in each subject is considered the Honor’s mark.

Eligibility for appearing in professional examination

First Professional Examination

  • Completed one and a half year course.
  • At least 75% class attendance in lecture, practical & demonstration classes separately.
  • Successful completion of cards in all subjects.
  • Successful completion of 3 End-term examinations.
  • Paid college dues (if any).
  • Certificate of good conduct from the concerned departments.

Second Professional Examination

  • Passed in 1st Professional MBBS Exam.
  • Completed I year course.
  • At least 75% class attendance in lecture, practical & demonstration classes separately.
  • Successful completion of cards in all subjects.
  • Successful completion of 3 End-term examinations.
  • Paid college dues (if any).
  • Certificate of good conduct from the concerned departments.

Third Professional Examination

  • Passed in 2nd Professional MBBS Exam.
  • Completed I year course.
  • At least 75% class attendance in lecture, practical & demonstration classes separately.
  • Successful completion of RFST.
  • Successful completion of cards in all subjects.
  • Successful completion of 3 Term examinations.
  • Paid college dues (if any).
  • Certificate of good conduct from the concerned departments.

Final Professional Examination

  • Passed in the 3rd Professional MBBS Exam.
  1. Completed three & a half year of academic course after passing 1st professional MBBS Exam.
  • At least 75% class attendance in lecture, practical & demonstration classes separately.
  • Successful completion of cards clinical exam in all subjects.
  • Successful completion of Block Posting.
  • Paid college dues (if any).
  • Certificate of good conduct from the concerned departments.

Internship Training

After passing final professional MBBS examination students have to enroll for one year log book based rotatory internship program. It is compulsory to complete internship Training Program designed by BMDC to get permanent registration for doing independent practice.

The training is mainly designed to develop necessary skills and attitudes to deal with common health problems generally encountered in hospital and in community. This is structured and strictly supervised. The trainees will be entitled to appropriate subsistence allowance/honorarium. The internship training is compulsory and a pre-requisite for obtaining registration with Bangladesh Medical & Dental Council.

The training consists of:

  • 19 weeks training in Medicine & allied subjects
  • 19 weeks training in Surgery & allied subjects
  • 14 weeks training in Gynae & Obstetrics and Family Planning

Instructions for the students

  1. 1. Students are to carry their identity card while inside the college and hospital.
  2. 2. Students are advised to attend classes in clean and well-dressed clothes with White aprons.
  3. 3. Fashionable dress, cosmetics, untidy hair, slippers are discouraged in the college & hospital campus.
  4. 4. Rings and bangles are impediment in the practical classes.
  5. 5. Smoking is forbidden in the college and hospital campus.
  6. 6. Environment should be kept clean. Students are advised to throw litters into the Waste bins.
  7. 7. Pasting of posters and Writing on the Walls of the college and hospital premises are prohibited. Those are considered as act of indiscipline and offenders involved are liable to punishment.
  8. 8. Closing of college, hospital and department gates or doors and creating obstacles in the normal functioning are act of gross indiscipline and students involved in such acts are liable to be expelled from the college.
  9. 9. All types of demonstrations, processions, shouting in the college and hospital premises are prohibited and students involved in these types of activities are liable to be expelled from the college.
  10. 10. Students must not misbehave with the staffs or employees of the college & hospital. Misbehavior is an act of indiscipline and liable for punishment.
  11. 11. The Students are expected to maintain the highest standard in their academic and private lives. Loss of moral and spiritual values or addiction to alcohol and narcotic drugs are punishable.
  12. 12. At the time of admission into the college, students and parents/guardians will have to sign a bond that students will abide by the rules and regulations of the college.
  13. 13. Every student shall have all the prescribed text books, dissecting instruments and medical equipment. The college will not supply these to the students.
  14. 14. In case of illness or other unavoidable reasons of non-attendance a written statement from the parent/ guardian should be presented to the concerned ‘guide teacher & Head of the department, who-in turn will submit it to the Principal for approval. In all cases -leave taken will beat the student’s own risk so far as percentage of attendance is concerned and even medical certificate will not condone any deficiency in attendance.

15   Cost of loss/damage to college/hospital property is liable to be realized from the student who is found responsible for the same activity.

Students Guidance/Counselling

To help and guide the students in academic matters like studies, examination, attendance and conduct batch students are placed under a teacher. Students are advised to meet their guide teacher whenever they require or asked by the teacher. Private tuition by faculty members is not allowed.

College Discipline

Students must observe strict discipline in the college. On disciplinary grounds the following penalties maybe imposed on a student, depending on the nature of offence.

  2. 2. Fines
  3. 3. Expulsion from hostel temporary or permanently.
  4. 4. Defer appearing examinations.
  5. 5. Expulsion from the college, temporary or permanently.
  6. 6. Any other punishment suggested Academic/Disciplinary council.

Penalty/penalties imposed on a student will be recorded in his/her Transcript/Testimonial. A student’s name maybe removed from college register under the following circumstances:

  1. 1. Remaining absent from classes for more than 3 months without any information.
  2. 2. If disciplinary ground on the advice of the Academic Council.
  3. 3. Non-payment of college dues within 3 months of due date of payment.

ReAdmission regulation of Dhaka University

The Re-admission for First Professional MBBS group will be acceptable with the fresh batch within 3(three) years.

  1. 1. Re-admission for re-examination in first professional MBBS Examination is acceptable within two & a half years plus six months for refresher course.
  2. 2. Re-admission for 2nd, 3rd & final Professional MBBS Examination will be acceptable within5 (five) year.

ReAdmission

If a student’s name is removed from the college register due to non-payment of dues or punishment or cancellation of studentship, he/she may be re-admitted provided he/ she pays full arrear dues and a fine of Tk. 10,000/- (Ten thousand) within 3 months of removal of the name from register. If a student remains absent for more than three months but less than twelve months he/she may be re-admitted on the recommendation of the Academic Council on full payment of arrear dues plus a fine of Tk.12,500/- (twelve thousand five hundred). However, if a student remains absent for more than twelve months he/she will not be admitted into the college except on special permission from the Academic Council of the college.

Final Remark

The College aims at improving the systems of medical education and health care delivery with the present day concept of medical education and training, which will have relevance to the need of the country. It is intended to bridge the gap between the need and resource for the development of health education, maternal and child welfare and other research to assist the government in its health.
