MBBS Curriculum

The College offers a five-year MBBS course followed by one year of internship training, as required by the Bangladesh Medical & Dental Council, leading to the MBBS degree of the University of Dhaka. The academic session begins in January each year, or as suggested by the Government.

I

Phase I

1.5 YEARS · FIRST PROFESSIONAL MBBS EXAMINATION

Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry.

II

Phase II

1 YEAR · SECOND PROFESSIONAL MBBS EXAMINATION

Community Medicine, Forensic Medicine.

III

Phase III

1 YEAR · THIRD PROFESSIONAL MBBS EXAMINATION

Pharmacology & Therapeutics, Pathology, Microbiology.

IV

Phase IV

1.5 YEARS · FINAL PROFESSIONAL MBBS EXAMINATION

Medicine & Allied Subjects, Surgery & Allied Subjects, Obstetrics & Gynaecology.

All academic activities, including the professional examination of each phase, must be completed within the specific time allotted to that phase. Examinations are held in the first week of January and July each year.

Pass mark: 60%. A student must pass the written (MCQ + SAQ + formative), oral, practical, and clinical examinations separately. 85% of the total marks in a subject is considered the Honours mark.

Eligibility for professional examinations

First Professional Examination
  • Completed one and a half year course.
  • At least 75% class attendance in lecture, practical & demonstration classes separately.
  • Successful completion of cards in all subjects.
  • Successful completion of 3 end-term examinations.
  • Paid college dues (if any).
  • Certificate of good conduct from the concerned departments.
Second Professional Examination
  • Passed the 1st Professional MBBS Examination.
  • Completed 1 year course.
  • At least 75% class attendance in lecture, practical & demonstration classes separately.
  • Successful completion of cards in all subjects.
  • Successful completion of 3 end-term examinations.
  • Paid college dues (if any).
  • Certificate of good conduct from the concerned departments.
Third Professional Examination
  • Passed the 2nd Professional MBBS Examination.
  • Completed 1 year course.
  • At least 75% class attendance in lecture, practical & demonstration classes separately.
  • Successful completion of RFST.
  • Successful completion of cards in all subjects.
  • Successful completion of 3 term examinations.
  • Paid college dues (if any).
  • Certificate of good conduct from the concerned departments.
Final Professional Examination
  • Passed the 3rd Professional MBBS Examination.
  • Completed three and a half years of academic course after passing the 1st Professional MBBS Examination.
  • At least 75% class attendance in lecture, practical & demonstration classes separately.
  • Successful completion of cards and clinical exam in all subjects.
  • Successful completion of Block Posting.
  • Paid college dues (if any).
  • Certificate of good conduct from the concerned departments.

After graduation

Internship training

After passing the Final Professional MBBS examination, students must enrol in a one-year, log-book-based rotatory internship programme. Completing this BMDC-designed training is compulsory to obtain permanent registration for independent practice. The training is structured, strictly supervised, and trainees receive a subsistence allowance/honorarium throughout.

Instructions for students

Campus conduct & discipline (16 rules)
  1. Students are to carry their identity card while inside the college and hospital.
  2. Students are advised to attend classes in clean and well-dressed clothes with white aprons.
  3. Fashionable dress, cosmetics, untidy hair, and slippers are discouraged on the college & hospital campus.
  4. Rings and bangles are an impediment in practical classes.
  5. Smoking is forbidden on the college and hospital campus.
  6. The environment should be kept clean; students are advised to throw litter into waste bins.
  7. Pasting posters or writing on the walls of the college and hospital premises is prohibited and considered an act of indiscipline.
  8. Closing college, hospital or department gates/doors and creating obstacles in normal functioning is an act of gross indiscipline, liable to expulsion.
  9. All types of demonstrations, processions, and shouting on the premises are prohibited; involved students are liable to expulsion.
  10. Students must not misbehave with the staff or employees of the college & hospital. Misbehaviour is punishable.
  11. Students are expected to maintain the highest standard in academic and private life. Loss of moral/spiritual values or addiction to alcohol and narcotic drugs is punishable.
  12. At admission, students and parents/guardians must sign a bond to abide by the rules and regulations of the college.
  13. Every student must have all prescribed textbooks, dissecting instruments and medical equipment; the college does not supply these.
  14. In case of illness or unavoidable non-attendance, a written statement from the parent/guardian should be submitted to the guide teacher and Head of Department for the Principal’s approval. Leave is taken at the student’s own risk regarding attendance percentage; medical certificates will not condone attendance deficiency.
  15. Cost of loss or damage to college/hospital property is recoverable from the responsible student.
  16. Political activities are not permitted in the college.
Student guidance & counselling

To help and guide students in academic matters such as studies, examinations, attendance and conduct, each batch of students is placed under a guide teacher. Students are advised to meet their guide teacher whenever needed or asked. Private tuition by faculty members is not allowed.

Policy

Discipline & re-admission

College discipline

Students must observe strict discipline in the college. Depending on the nature of the offence, the following penalties may be imposed:

  1. Warning
  2. Fines
  3. Temporary or permanent expulsion from hostel
  4. Deferred appearance in examinations
  5. Temporary or permanent expulsion from the college
  6. Any other punishment suggested by the Academic/Disciplinary Council

Penalties imposed are recorded in the student’s transcript/testimonial. A student’s name may be removed from the college register if they: remain absent from classes for more than 3 months without information; are recommended for removal on disciplinary grounds by the Academic Council; or fail to pay college dues within 3 months of the due date.

Re-admission regulation of Dhaka University

Re-admission for the First Professional MBBS group is acceptable with the fresh batch within 3 (three) years.

  1. Re-admission for re-examination in the First Professional MBBS Examination is acceptable within two and a half years, plus six months for a refresher course.
  2. Re-admission for the 2nd, 3rd & Final Professional MBBS Examination is acceptable within 5 (five) years.
Re-admission fees

If a student’s name is removed due to non-payment of dues, punishment, or cancellation of studentship, they may be re-admitted upon paying full arrear dues plus a fine of Tk. 10,000 within 3 months of removal.

If a student remains absent for more than 3 months but less than 12 months, they may be re-admitted on the recommendation of the Academic Council, upon full payment of arrear dues plus a fine of Tk. 12,500.

If a student remains absent for more than 12 months, they will not be admitted into the college except by special permission of the Academic Council.

Final remark: The College aims to improve the systems of medical education and healthcare delivery in line with present-day concepts of medical education and training relevant to the country’s needs — bridging the gap between need and resource to advance health education, maternal and child welfare, and research that assists the government in its health mission.
