Author Guidelines

Detailed instructions for preparing and submitting manuscripts to the President Abdul Hamid Medical College Journal. All authors must follow these guidelines to ensure smooth processing of their submissions.

Scope of the Journal

What We Publish

The President Abdul Hamid Medical College Journal (PAHMCJ) publishes original research articles, review articles, case reports, short communications, and letters to the editor on all aspects of basic medical sciences, clinical medicine, public health, and medical education. Manuscripts from all disciplines of medicine and allied health sciences are considered for publication.

Target Audience

The journal serves clinicians, researchers, medical educators, and students in Bangladesh and beyond. Articles should be written in clear, accessible English. Technical jargon should be minimized or explained. The journal aims to bridge the gap between academic research and day-to-day clinical practice.

Types of Articles

Original Research

Full-length reports of original investigations. Must include structured abstract, introduction, methods, results, and discussion.

3,000–5,000 words · Structured abstract

Review Article

Comprehensive critical reviews of current topics. Should be systematic or narrative with clear methodology where applicable.

3,000–6,000 words · Unstructured abstract

Case Report

Reports of unique, unusual, or educational clinical cases. Must include informed consent statement and relevant clinical images.

1,000–2,000 words · Unstructured abstract

Short Communication

Brief preliminary findings or methodology notes that warrant rapid publication before a full study is completed.

1,000–1,500 words · No abstract required

Letter to the Editor

Comments, criticisms, or observations on previously published articles. Responses from original authors will be solicited.

500–800 words · No abstract

Editorial / Commentary

Invited opinion pieces on topical issues in medicine, medical education, or health policy. Usually commissioned by the Editorial Board.

1,000–2,000 words · By invitation

Manuscript Preparation

General Format

  1. Manuscripts must be typed in Microsoft Word (.doc/.docx) format.
  2. Use Times New Roman, 12 pt, double-spaced throughout with 1-inch (2.5 cm) margins on all sides.
  3. Pages must be numbered consecutively beginning from the title page.
  4. Use SI units for all measurements and abbreviations should be standard and spelled out at first use.
  5. Manuscripts should be written in English using clear, concise language.

Title Page

  1. Full title of the article — concise and informative (avoid abbreviations).
  2. Names of all authors with their highest academic degrees and current affiliations.
  3. Name, address, phone number, and email of the corresponding author.
  4. Source(s) of support in the form of grants, equipment, or drugs.
  5. A short running title of no more than 40 characters.

Abstract & Keywords

  1. Structured abstract (for Original Research): Background, Methods, Results, Conclusion — not exceeding 250 words.
  2. Unstructured abstract (for Case Reports, Reviews): single paragraph, not exceeding 150 words.
  3. Provide 5–7 keywords below the abstract, preferably from MeSH terminology.
  4. Avoid using citations or uncommon abbreviations in the abstract.

Tables, Figures & Images

  1. Tables and figures should be numbered consecutively in the order of their first citation in the text.
  2. Each table/figure must have a brief, descriptive title/legend.
  3. Images must be high-resolution (minimum 300 DPI) and submitted as separate files (JPEG, PNG, or TIFF).
  4. Previously published figures require written permission from the copyright holder and proper attribution.

Reference Style

PAHMCJ follows the Vancouver Style (ICMJE Recommendations) for references. References should be numbered consecutively in the order they first appear in the text. Identify references in text, tables, and legends by Arabic numerals in superscript or in parentheses. Abbreviate journal names according to Index Medicus / PubMed. Journal articles must include the Digital Object Identifier (DOI) when available, formatted as a full URL: https://doi.org/10.xxxx/xxxxx

Submission Process

How to Submit

  1. Manuscripts must be submitted through the PAHMCJ Online Manuscript Submission System available on the Submit Manuscript page. Email submissions are no longer accepted.
  2. Complete the online form with article details (title, type, abstract, keywords), full author list, and corresponding author information.
  3. Upload the following files directly through the form: (a) Manuscript (.doc, .docx, or .pdf), (b) Cover letter, (c) Ethical approval document (where applicable), (d) Supplementary files (figures/tables), if any.
  4. The cover letter must confirm that the manuscript is original, has not been published elsewhere, is not under consideration by another journal, and that all authors have approved the final version.
  5. Ethical approval information, conflict of interest statement, and funding disclosure must be entered directly in the relevant fields of the submission form.
  6. Upon successful submission, a unique Tracking ID (e.g., PAHMCJ-2026-0001) is generated automatically, and a confirmation email is sent instantly to the corresponding author. Please retain this Tracking ID for all future correspondence regarding your manuscript.
  7. All manuscripts undergo double-blind peer review. The editorial process typically takes 8–12 weeks from submission to first decision. Status updates (Under Review, Revision Requested, Accepted, Rejected) will be communicated by the editorial office via email as the review progresses.

Important Notes

Revision Deadlines Revised manuscripts must be submitted within 30 days of receiving reviewer comments. Extensions may be requested with valid reason.
Acceptance & Proof Upon acceptance, page proofs will be sent to the corresponding author’s registered email. Corrections must be returned within 72 hours. No substantial changes are permitted at proof stage.
Publication Frequency PAHMCJ is published twice a year (January and July). Accepted manuscripts are assigned to the next available issue.
Processing Charges There is currently no submission or publication fee for authors. This policy is subject to change with prior notice.

Ethical Considerations

Human & Animal Rights

Studies involving human subjects must include a statement confirming approval from the relevant Institutional Ethics Committee and that informed consent was obtained. Animal studies must follow institutional and national guidelines.

Plagiarism & Originality

All manuscripts are screened for plagiarism using appropriate software. Submissions with similarity above 20% (excluding references and quoted text) will be returned without review. Duplicate publication is strictly prohibited.

Authorship Criteria

Authorship must be based on ICMJE criteria: substantial contributions to conception/design, data acquisition/analysis, drafting or critical revision, and final approval. Ghost authorship and gift authorship are not permitted.

Conflict of Interest

All authors must disclose any financial or non-financial conflicts of interest — including grants, consultancies, stock ownership, or patents — in a separate declaration submitted with the manuscript.

Clinical Trial Registration

Clinical trials must be registered in a publicly accessible registry (e.g., ClinicalTrials.gov) before enrollment of the first participant. The registration number must be included in the manuscript.

Patient Privacy & Consent

Case reports must include a statement confirming that written informed consent was obtained from the patient (or guardian) for publication. Identifying details (names, initials, hospital numbers) must be omitted or anonymized.
