Abstract

Medical education is the foundation of a strong health care system, and the quality of future doctors depends largely on the curriculum followed during undergraduate training. This editorial discusses the need to shift from traditional, theory-heavy, examination-oriented MBBS curricula toward a modern, student-centered, competency-based model. It highlights emerging healthcare challenges — antimicrobial resistance, pandemics, mental health disorders, climate-related diseases, and artificial intelligence in medicine — that demand curriculum reform, and advocates for early clinical exposure, problem-based learning, simulation-based teaching, research training, and student mental health support as essential components of undergraduate medical education.
